Gravely & Pearson, L.L.P. Obtains Settlement with Manufacturers and Installers of Defective Artificial Turf System

“Your firm made it possible for our district to regain the money needed to have our field rebuilt correctly to serve the students of our district. For that we are forever grateful.”

China Spring, Texas (July 17, 2014) – China Spring Independent School District hired Gravely & Pearson, L.L.P., after defects and irregularities surfaced in the newly-installed artificial turf system. Among the complaints were deteriorating turf material and a lack of a proper drainage system resulting in excessive ponding of water on the China Spring I.S.D. football field. Gravely & Pearson, L.L.P., and its team experts vigorously prosecuted the claim against the design-builder, manufacturer, and installers of the artificial turf system.

“The District had already paid over a half million dollars for their football field and turf system, and it would be unfair to the taxpayers of the District to make them pay for it all over again in the form of repair work that would not be necessary had the turf system been properly designed and installed the first time,” said Valerie Cantu, the Gravely & Pearson attorney prosecuting the case. Matthew Pearson, a partner at Gravely & Pearson added, “Our goal is to maximize the recovery for our clients so school districts like China Spring I.S.D. can offset the repair costs necessary to address construction related problems. We recognize that football is an important part of a community like China Spring. Unlike other larger school districts, this was their [China Spring's] only football field. We are honored that they selected our firm to help them through these issues.”

Mr. Marc Faulkner, Superintendent of China Spring I.S.D., commented on the settlement:

“Your firm made it possible for our district to regain the money needed to have our field rebuilt correctly to serve the students of our district. For that we are forever grateful.

We built our field back in 2009 and used a company that unfortunately went out of business a short while after our field was complete. We had issues from the beginning of installation to present and could not get any relief from the company that purchased our field installer.”

China Spring I.S.D. and those responsible for design and construction of the turf system reached a favorable settlement of the claims.
